The Flash technique
-
The Flash technique was created by Phillip Mansfield in 2017.
-
Flash is an evidenced-based approach that is meant to reduce symptoms associated with traumatic or distressing experiences.
-
The Flash technique originally grew out of EMDR therapy; but has been developed to be used as either a stand-alone technique or used in conjunction with other therapeutic approaches.
-
Much like EMDR, Flash uses eye-motion and tapping during the process. Unlike EMDR, Flash has clients not directly focus on the traumatic memory, but rather the PEF (Positive Engaging Focus) instead.
-
This technique is meant to help clients work through distressing events in a less jarring way, because clients are not directly in contact with the memory, but the brain is still reprocessing the information.
-
Flash can be helpful for clients of all ages.
-
Clients who have dissociative disorders, depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma-related disorders, OCD, or other conditions can benefit from this approach.
